TwilSharp Studios is a 19th century Johannesburg home that has been converted into 6 working artists' studios and an alternative project space for artists and young curators to host independent small-scale exhibitions, performances, workshops and events. Alongside the studios and project space we also host an international Artist-in-Residence program, which offers on-site self-catering accommodation, a studio space and support for artists wishing to explore Johannesburg.
Situated in the historic and vibrant neighbourhood of Bertrams, TwilSharp is a unique space in the inner city. The house, built in 1890, is one of the original grand dames of Jozi's gold-rush-era homes. The property has seen many iterations; Twilsharp is named for the sandpaper and grindstone factory 'TwilSharp Ltd' that occupied the workshops on the premises between the 40's and 70's, now it is an artist-run oasis of play and creativity.
